Cox Classic
The Cox Classic is an annual PGA golf tournament held each summer in Omaha. The tournament is hosted at Champions Run, located on 132nd and Maple. This is a four day golf tournament that has many exciting events at night for both young and old. The week starts off on the Monday before the tournament with free entrance to watch the Tour Pros during their practice round. On Tuesday, McDonald's hosts a children's clinic where Tour Pros are on the driving range giving about a five minute lesson to children. Wednesday more practice rounds are scheduled and spectators can watch the pros. At night there are live concerts at the Michelob 19th Hole. Those concerts go through Saturday night. Also, Saturday night on the driving range there is a fireworks show. Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday is where all the action is.
Some of this action has been provided by numerous players who are now mainstays on the PGA Tour. The most notable among them are Aaron Baddeley, Chad Campbell, Zach Johnson, and the colorful Jason Gore. Perhaps the greatest aspect of the Cox Classic is its charitable work. During the 2006 event, the tournament distributed $134,000 to local Omaha charities.
