Eugene T. Mahoney State Park
The Eugene T. Mahoney State Park is a state park just north of I-80 and just west of the Platte River that opened in 1991. It is located about halfway between Omaha and Lincoln at I-80 exit 426. The 690 acre park is open year round and the attractions include a large lodge with dining and overnight accommodations, a family aquatic center, camping, trails, fishing, picnicking, horseback riding, an ice skating rink, playgrounds, and many more fun activities. It is named after Eugene T. Mahoney who was a Nebraska Game and Parks Commission Director from 1976 to 1988. The majority of the funds for the development of Mahoney State Park came from private donations and Eugene T. Mahoney played an important role in raising these funds.
