[edit] Amenities
Memorial Park contains many amenities that make it popular in Omaha. Floral displays and historical monuments make this park unique. It also contains a playground, a baseball field, paths, and trails.
[edit] The Monument
The major historical monument was designed by The Leo A. Daly architectural firm. The Leo A. Daly architectural firm came up with plans for a memorial colonnade, an amphitheater with a capacity of 12,000, and many gardens. This plan by the Leo A. Daly architectural firm was never carried out to all that it was suppose to be. Only the colonnade and a few gardens exist today. The Carlson Construction company was in charge of all construction in the park. Carlson Construction began work on the park in late October 1945. The colonnade is a memorial to the men and women of Omaha who died in World War II.
[edit] Donation
In May 1948 the Memorial Park Association paid $112,450 for the park and later donated it to the city of Omaha. Omaha residents contributed to this major public improvement. All funds were donated by people and none were given by the city of Omaha or the state of Nebraska. One of the more recent donations was garbage cans positioned around the Memorial.
[edit] Concerts
In recent years, a local bank has sponsored a free community concert with fireworks on the last Friday of June. The activities take place on the west side of Memorial Park. This concert has hosted bands including Three Dog Night, The Temptations, and The Beach Boys. Memorial Park also hosted a free concert from local area band 311 as part of Omaha's 150th Birthday Celebration.

[edit] Rose Garden
Memorial Park also has a large rose garden containing more that 1000 rose bushes. The Omaha Rose Society planted the garden just north of the Memorial. Today, the Rose Garden is among the most popular features of the park. Many UNO students and Creighton University students use the garden as a outdoor study area. There are a variety of roses that are all labeled according to who donated them as well as type. There are six benches dedicated to the people of Omaha who donated large sums of money. The garden is located on the other side of the Memorial. To find this garden just walk through the Memorial and you will be surrounded by roses.
