Omaha Commons:Add links on dates

[edit] Overview

The Omaha Wiki has the ability to have internal links for all days of the year (including [[[February 29]]) and all years from 1600 to 2199. When you place internal links around a day or year, they will show up in blue and will link to the corresponding article when selected.

[edit] How you can help

Add internal links to any dates or years that do not currently have links. Do this as follows:

  • Edit the article with a date or year that is not linked.
  • Put double brackets around the date (e.g., [[January 3]], [[February 29]]) or year (e.g.; [[1804]], [[2008]])

If the dates is written with the date followed by the year (e.g., March 3, 1973), put links around each of the date ([[March 3]]) and the year ([[1973]]). This will allow the date to display in the format specified by the user on their user preference page for dates. Do not put brackets around the entire combined date and year as will create a link to a page that does not exist.

[edit] Why do this?

We plan to develop a "On this day in history" section and there is thus a need to have links between articles about events that happen on a given day and year. This could be a birth, death, historical event, founding of an organization, or any similar event.. By going to a given day or year, you can select the "What links here" option on the toolbox (left side) and see all articles that have some event that occurred on that day.
