The Omaha World Herald is the primary daily newspaper for Omaha and surrounding areas with a circulation of about 190,000 daily and 240,000 Sunday. The company was founded in 1885 by Gilbert M. Hitchcock. In 1963, Peter Kiewit purchased The Omaha World-Herald to ensure that the newspaper would continue to locally owned. Following his death in 1979, the company became employee owned when employees were allowed to purchase the company from the Kiewit family. Today, the Omaha World-Herald is the largest employee owned daily newspaper in the U.S. The company headquarters are located in downtown Omaha at 14th and Douglas.
