Orpheum Theater
The Orpheum Theater is a performing arts center located in Downtown Omaha that is managed by Omaha Performing Arts. The Orpheum hosts programs best served by a more theatrical setting, including the "Broadway In Omaha" series and Opera Omaha. The 2,600-seat theater was originally built in 1927 as a vaudeville house. The Orpheum stage hosted the likes of W.C. Fields, Bing Crosby, Bob Hope and Al Jolson. The entire facility received a top-to-bottom renovation in the 1970s, and again in 2002, when the Orpheum underwent a $10 million renovation. The architecture and design of this historic theater is breathtaking. Tours are available at no charge by request.
In 2004, the Orpheum Theater Skylink was added for increased convenience and accessibility to the Orpheum. The 200-foot-long elevated, enclosed and climate-controlled walkway connects the OPPD parking garage to the Orpheum Theater. Today, it is home to Opera Omaha, Broadway touring productions and music concerts. In recent years, Jerry Seinfeld, the Phantom of the Opera, Annie, the Lion King, and James Taylor have all graced the Orpheum stage.
