Omaha Commons:Add links

From Omaha Commons

Because the Omaha Wiki is a user generated encyclopedia, it is important to make its information both reliable and accessible. This is first done through the use of external and internal links.

[edit] External Links

External links connect to internet pages outside of the Wiki. By correlating the information contained in the article with other reliable sources, the article’s information will be more complete and more dependable.

To create an external link, first add a header for that section of the article. This is most commonly done as ==External Links== To add the actual hyperlink place one bracket around the link, including the http prefix, and place the text for the link after a space within the brackets. For example, [http://www.omahazoo.com/ The official website for the Henry Doorly Zoo] is the format for the external link below:

The official website for the Henry Doorly Zoo

[edit] Internal Links

Internal links connect to pages contained within the Wiki. These links make navigating the site much easier. If an article references another article in the Wiki database, a user can easily learn more about that subject by clicking on the internal link. This becomes more and more helpful as the database grows. It is useful to create an internal link the first time or two the article is referenced, but it is not needed for every citation in a single article.

For example, if an article about the College World Series references Rosenblatt Stadium, a user might want to know more information about the stadium itself. This is when an internal link will direct the user directly to that page with a single click.

To create the internal link simply place two brackets around the name of the article within the text. i.e. The College World Series is held at [ [Rosenblatt Stadium] ]. When the spaces in the brackets used for illustration are removed it looks like this: Rosenblatt Stadium.
