Omaha Commons:Citation Project

[edit] Overview
The Citation Project within the Omaha will work to create a process for providing citations within articles. Providing citations within articles and having associated references at the end of an article are standard ways to provide support for claims within encyclopedia articles and more generally to support arguments in academic publishing. An overview of how Wikipedia handles citations is provided at Wikipedia:Citing sources. This project page and related pages should be used for coordinating activities related to developing a system for citations within the Omaha Wiki.

[edit] Which citation style(s) to use?
User:Freechild has proposed using the APA citation syle (see User talk:Workman#References). I support importing the necessary templates from Wikipedia (with appropriate GFDL attribution) and or adding any extensions or hooks to the Mediwiki software that are necessary to provide this capability in the Omaha Wiki. However, I think we should defer making any policy decisions on which (if any) citation style(s) will be officially supported on the Omaha until there has been more discussion of this issue. [edit] Which Wikipedia citation templates should be imported
Which of the Wikipedia citation templates need to be imported to the Omaha Wiki? I think all of the current ones if the goal is to support import of article text from Wikipedia that includes citations. However, this goal itself may be subject to debate.Workman 16:19, 24 September 2007 (CDT)
