Septemberfest
Septemberfest is a annual celebration in Omaha saluting working people over the Labor Day weekend with a carnival, auto shows, live entertainment, and a parade. The festival, which used to be held at Ak-Sar-Ben, was the first event to be held on Qwest Center grounds shortly before the building opened to the public in 2003. The festival will return the Qwest Center for 2007 on Sept. 1st-5th.
Car shows occur in parking lot D on Saturday, Sunday & Monday of Labor day weekend. The clubs that host the shows are the Great Plains F-100 Club, Platte'ers Car Club and Midwest Early Corvette club. At the beginning of 2008, Midwest Early Corvette Club was sent a letter by the Sepetmberfest offices indicating that they would not be invited back to host their car show on Labor day. It went on to indicate that the car shows were being reorganized with the inclusion of a motorcycle show on Saturday August 30, 2008 and the other shows were moving forward (August 31st & September 1st). No other reason was given. Midwest Early Corvette Club's show was the best attended of the three at the admission of the Septemberfest committee. This ended a relationship with Septemberfest that started in 2000 when Midwest Early Corvette Club was the only club hosting a car show at the Ak-Sar-Ben location. Midwest Early Corvette Club will host it's own show in Bennington, NE. on August 31st 2008 and will open up their show to all cars not just cars whose companies employ union labor to manufacture their vehicles.
