100 Yards of Glory will offer visitors a rare look at the celebrated and untold stories of Omaha’s football past, dating back to the University of Nebraska’s first football game, a 10-0 victory against the Omaha YMCA men’s team in 1890. From there, the exhibit will explore the games, the players, the coaches, and the trophies that have defined football excellence in our community for 120 years, spanning the high school, collegiate and professional ranks.

Visitors will relive the stories of the three Omahans to win the Heisman Trophy; Marlon Briscoe’s trailblazing path to become the first African-American quarterback in the National Football League and the kinship shared by Omaha native Gale Sayers and Brian Piccolo as made famous in Brian’s Song. Visitors will also learn about the development of football at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, including the university’s 1954 Tangerine Bowl victory and will discover the historical clubs at Creighton University prior to World War II.

The exhibit will reveal the accomplishments of lesser-known gridiron legends and coaches such as John “Slingshot” Knolla, who led the nation in rushing in 1940 while playing for Creighton University. Featuring photos, memorabilia, and other artifacts such as the Heisman Trophy, 100 Yards of Glory will offer something for football fans of every age and experience.
