West Center Road
West Center Road is a major east-west road that runs from 72nd Street westward across the Platte River and past 240th street in rural Douglas County. In the sequence of major east-west roads, it is two miles south of West Dodge Road, one mile south of Pacific Street, and one mile north of Q Street.
The "West" in West Center Road refers to being west of 72nd Street, which historically was the dividing point between east and west Omaha. East of 72nd Street the proper street name is Center Street. As the population and city boundaries have shifted westward, 72nd street is no longer the mid-point of Omaha and the majority of Omaha's population now resides west of 96th Street. All of the major East-West streets in Omaha similarly use the prefix "West" to refer to addresses West of 72nd Street. Generally, there is no use of the prefix "East" for the addresses east of 72nd, with the exception of the neighborhood immediately south of Eppley Airfield.
